I recently went to Thailand for the first time, and was very anxious to call the woman I met while I was there after I got back. I got a calling card first, for $20, that gave me about 60 minutes of talking time (about 33 cents per minute), the quality was decent, but I thought 33 cents/minute was too much. I am literally calling Thailand every day talking for about 30 minutes per day. I did some research and found that using my local phone service was the best option for me. My phone company gives me a 24 cents/minute rate, excellent quality, I never get cut off, no cross-chatter, and I simply dial 011-66- .. so it is very easy and it was cheaper than any calling cards I could find. Just another option for people wanting to call Thailand very frequently.

For any of you out there considering which long distance phone service to use, I want to briefly tell you, DO NOT USE "SPEEDYPIN". We get through on only about one of three calls, we are grossly misbilled, we get inadvertently cut off from the operators (when asking questions), it's somewhat difficult to understand the operators due to the language and the background noise and the lack of adequate volume, and the operators give different stories each time about our phone calls. All in all, this ten dollar card from the US got us charged with only 135 minutes of talking time including the three minute rounding. So the effective talking time was probably 110 minutes. That is about nine cents a minute, not to mention multiple hours on the phone with the operators. The plan called for 1.5 cents per minute with 79 cent service fees billed twice monthly. I will be writing to federal regulators after I have written this review on as many websites as I can find. Needless to say, I am fed up with Speedypin! I am a private party and have no axe to grind. ja

Perhaps it was my bad luck, but beware.
I bought a card from them to call to a cell in Ukraine. I was cautious so I bought one $5 world platinum card. This wasn't the cheapest, but I had to go with it b/s for the other card they wanted TWO $5 cards minimum. Something to think about already. For my purchase they also charged $1 "surcharge" for "under $20". This already tells about their practices.
I called to two numbers in Ukraine and never got connected. Well, this isn't the worst thing, I understand it may happen. What really drove me crazy is how they use your minutes. THEY COUNT YOUR MINUTES STARTING WITH YOU LIFTING YOUR HANDSET. I made altogether 6 attempts and never said one word to my party, nontheless almost 25 minutes were gone from my account in the end. One time my cell phone timer showed a call 3min20sec long (that's from the moment I dialed their number!), after which my balance dropped down by 6 minutes. This is just incredible.
I called their support & they tried to fix their problem & add my minutes back. Next day the same story - nothing connects, no minutes refunded. Eventually there was no point to keep that card b/s I can't use it & they'd just eat it up with their "weekly service fee", so I tried to have them cancel the PIN and refund my money since no service was provided. Guess what, they can't refund any money. They told me first I need to go to where I bought the card, that is their own website! Then they told me - no refund anyway. So I'll have to ask my credit company to deny their charge.
For all you out their shopping - take advantage of my loss. Don't buy from these guys even if they are "cheaper". It will cost you more in the end.

Speedypin took over 1800phonecards so I continued on with the new company. However, and it is a good thing that I track all calls, I noticed that my Clear&Clean International card was being used up rather quickly. You only realize that when you go to make your next call and you are told how much time you have left. Get a load of this: On 10/28/05 I made a call and got an answering machine. I left a message and hung up. My phone said I used less than 1 minute so I deducted the call by 1 minute leaving me with a balance, I later learned, of 521. At the start of that call I had 566 minutes left. The worse abuse happened between yesterday and today. On a balance of 320 (their balance) I made a local call of 34 minutes, leaving me a balance of 286 (my balance). Today I was told I have 210 minutes left - they took off another 76 minutes. This goes on every day. And I complain and get promises of a credit to my credit card account.
Advice: KEEP A RECORD OF CALLS.

Dear Sir;

We have used SpeedyPin, Clear And Clean calling card for over 8 months, for calls from USA to Russia. We were at first very happy with the correctness and clarity of service.

However, about Novemeber 2005, we became suspect of the rate the cards were used up.

So, our next card we bought online from them (Jan 28, 2006)-- we began keeping close records of minutes used and the minutes they say are left.

We found in the first 4 calls of 68 minutes (time we measured), to be charged 106 minutes by them.

We called thier customer service many times without success.
The last call from them was to give us an appology and a complementray phone minutes on a new pin number--- we waited and found the new minutes adjusted to about 313 minutes, the orginal phone minutes we bought were for 695 minutes, and we have only used 69 minutes. We should have 626 minutes left--- and now they give us us 313 minutes---they cheated us about 5 hours.

I advise everyone-- not to use SpeedPin anymore.

SPEEDYPIN - Don't buy!

Do not buy it ever! Sound quality sucks. Calls are dropping in about 5-6 minutes. They are grossly overcharging you - having 1 hour available initially I went to zero after 10-15 minutes of conversion, even though claimed rate was 2c a minute w/o connection fee.
Positive reviews here are left by spedypin themselve - unhonest business people!

Contact SpeedyPin's customer service directly at 1.800.483.3805, email support@speedypin.com or live chat from their website. They offer a 100% guarantee so it's worth the contact.

A former Speedypin customer, I now use Tel3Advantage.com and I highly recommend them. My time log and theirs is on the same page. For $25 I got over 1,500 minutes (1.9 cents per min) plus a $5 gift given in time as a first time user. I use them for calls within the Continental USA and Canada. They have deals for overseas as well.

DO CHECK IT OUT!!

Tel3's domestic rates are fine, but their international rates hardly compare to that of SpeedyPin.com and most other phone card companies. I won't say which company I use, but I will tell you that I heavily base my purchases on TRUST. I look for things like, secure ordering, guarantees, a customer support number available from any web page, how long the company has been around. I think the length of time a company has been around is a huge factor. Just be careful of the fly-by-night websites (here today and gone tomorrow).
